So, I have been at a conference in Salt Lake the past 3 days. It's the annual Utah League of Cities & Towns Conference. There have been some great classes and I got to eat at The Roof restaurant (top of the Joseph Smith Memoral Building). I saw a kwiki-mart on Main Street where they sell bongs and other paraphenalia (I was looking for bandaids and hair cream). Oh, and I saw the weirdest thing the other day- I was walking back to my hotel and I saw a homeless person. Now, that in and of itself wasn't weird, but he had a bunch of large pieces of bread that he was soaking in the water in the rain gutter. I wasn't sure what was going on.
At the end of the conference, they always have a big dinner and concert. Last year, it was Three Dog Night. This year, the entertainment was Air Supply. Work paid for me to take a date, so I called up my friend Mark to come along. I wanted to cut my hair so it would feather nice and good, but I just got it done 3 weeks ago, so I decided not to do it. The concert was great! Air Supply was really entertaining- having grown up listening to them and dancing to their songs at many a stake dance, I had a blast.
Mark & I decided that these guys are using the same dance moves they were using in the 80s. When the first one walked out, he showed off the tattoos on his pecs by opening his already opened too far shirt that looked like it had marijuana plants on it. They did lots of hand wavy things (think spirit fingers but no so cheerleady) and lots of artificial hip shaking and pointing at people in the audience. These guys are about 60 years old, but it was hilarious to see the one playing the guitar try to jump around and look/act like he was 30! Good times.
By far, however, the coolest thing was when they came into the audience. They were singing "The One that you Love" (here i am, the one that you love, asking for another day...) and wandering around between all the tables. Well, he came right by where we were sitting and brushed my face! I felt so special, I thought I might never wash my face again- 'course that only lasted until I got back to my hotel and washed my face.
But, I got some kinda' cool pictures of the concert. I loved all the cell phone waving and arm swaying and things like that. I'm sure many a person in the audience had a good flashback of a junior high romantic moment in the basement of some boys house playing spin the bottle or 7 minutes in heaven or whatever other make out games were popular in 1982.
It was a great time at the concert!
