My Roots Are Showing

As a general rule, I consider myself a smart person.  I did well enough in high school and college to be on scholarship 80% of the time.  When I retook the GRE test last fall, my scores were above the average scores for incoming PhD students at Harvard, Yale and Princeton.  I tell you what though, when I do something airheaded, I go for the gold!

Cases in point:

-A few years ago, I had a cell phone that, after being played with by my nieces and nephews, had become rather sticky.  Now, what do you do with things that have been made sticky by small hands?  That's right, you wash it.  So, being bogged down with a cold at this particular time, I reasoned that rinsing it off would be the way to go.  Imagine my surprise a few hours later when my phone crackled and stopped working.  When I went into the Verizon store to get a new phone, the sales guy reassured me that it was, in fact, one of the dumbest things he'd ever heard of anyone doing.

-Yesterday, I drove my car over to the church (it should be pointed out here that the church is directly across the street from where I live) in case I needed to drive kids home after our weekly activity.  Well, since I very, very seldomly drive to the church, I walked home, keys in hand.  I was talking to my mom on the phone when I got to my house, looked at my empty parking space, realized what I had done and promptly turned around and walked back to the church, where my car was sitting quite nicely where I had parked it not 30 minutes before.

-I have also reached in and grabbed something out of the oven without the benefit of a hotpad and walked barefoot across Central Park in January and then wondered why my feet hurt  I'm sure I've done countless other silly things, but blessedly, time has allowed me to forget most of them.

glad I am not the only one who does airheaded things.
