My First Venture into the Land of Lost Souls (or- what happened when I went to an old people singles ward for the first time)

So, the other day, my boss was giving me a hard time and basically told me it was my own fault that I am single. Bless his heart- sometimes he tries to say things and picks all the wrong words. He said that I should be taking advantage of the older singles wards and such.

Well then the other day I started getting all angsty and whatnot about my life and singleness (side effects of my previous blog entry). So today, I thought "what the heck- I'll go for Sunday School and RS. It took me almost 10 minutes of standing outside the door to actually get up the courage to go in and sit down. Please remember- I once heard Sheri Dew refer to mid-singles wards as the Lost & Found of the Church.

She was not too far off the mark- it was plenty weird, let me tell you! It wasn't all bad- there were about a dozen or so people who didn't look like they needed Stacey & Clinton (What Not to Wear). The 4 most normal looking guys made up the EQ Presidency. The lessons were good, even if they were dotted with some out there comments. Truthfully, at first I thought bishop was a ward member!

The bishop made a comment that made me think they are talking about dissolving the ward, so I'm not sure that I will go to meetings. Plus, I'm not so sure I want to do 5 hours of church, even though getting in a Sunday School lesson and a RS lesson is nice. But, I might try FHE and/or a ward activity when I can go.

So there you go- I tried it and yes, it definitely seemed like the lost & found of the Church. But it was only about 94% as creepy as I was expecting.

my great and dear friend Margaret Oak is in that crazy ward. It's true it is crazy but there are some few and far between awesomness in it. Margaret has told me they might be desolving it to get the crazies out. And relocate it to another location. There is a bad rep associated with that ward and they're trying to purge the preditors and people who's needs would be better taken care of elsewhere. There are a LOT of people in your age group who won't go to that ward because of the weirdness and the leaders (salt lake i think)are working on making it better. (all this info is from Margaret who is one of the normals but my good friend Carl is in the ward too so if you go again and need a friend find these guys they're awesome)
